HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARATIVE:
“At approximately 8:20 p.m. on Monday evening, Jan. 20, Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies responded to a complaint about a stolen pickup truck.
They met with the victim, who had taken the truck to Alejandro Chavez-Ceja, 44, of Gainesville, on the 18th. Chavez-Ceja was supposed to perform some mechanical work on the vehicle at a shop in the 2300 block of Monroe Drive.
Just before 7 p.m. on Monday, the 20th, Chavez-Ceja contacted the victim, claiming the vehicle had been stolen from the shop parking lot at approximately 6 p.m. During the investigation, deputies were notified that the vehicle in question, a 2019 Chevrolet 2500, had been involved in a hit and run wreck at approximately 6:30 p.m. The driver of the truck had fled the scene of the crash, which was being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.
Following its investigation, the state patrol obtained arrest warrants and issued citations for Chavez-Ceja in connection with the hit-and-run. HCSO investigators obtained warrants for false statements and writings (felony) and giving a false report of a crime (misdemeanor) in relation to the false stolen vehicle claims.
HCSO Warrant Service Unit deputies arrested Chavez-Ceja on Thursday morning, Jan. 30, in the 2300 block of Monroe Drive. He (remained) in the Hall County Jail (early Friday afternoon) without bond.”
