*Mother’s Day is Sunday, and the top gift in Georgia this year has been revealed. According to a study by Zippia, earrings are on the top of the list for many moms this year. The site used Google Trends to see which of the top ten typical Mother’s Day gifts each state searched for the most. Nationwide, consumers are expected to spend a record $38 (B) billion this year for Mother’s Day.
*An Atlanta-based appeals court has overturned the Trump administration’s mandatory detention policy for immigrants in federal custody, allowing more individuals to wait at home during deportation proceedings. The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Department of Homeland Security cannot deny bond hearings to those in immigration detention, including long-term residents with no criminal records. The AJC reports that this decision opens the door for individuals to seek release while their cases are pending in court.
*A child is recovering after being hit by a falling bullet in Coffee County. Police say they were called to a report of child being hit in the head by the bullet earlier this week. Police say the child survived and is recovering at a local hospital. Authorities are warning the public against the dangers of firing guns into the air which can damage homes, injure people and pets, and can unintentionally kill.
