State troopers fired; Shots fired at firefighters; Teacher-student sex

*Four state troopers are without a job after filing false insurance claims. Public safety officials say personal injury claims of up to $25,000 were filed after police chase incidents. Investigators found these officers were trying to make money from injury claims related to police chases. A Department of Public Safety spokesperson says the troopers’ actions “violated the Department’s policy and ethical standards” and does not define the agency.  All four worked in south Georgia.

*Atlanta firefighters are okay after a man shot at them while arriving on scene of a 911 call. Officials say Anthony Bell was suspected of being intoxicated and abusing his wife on Thursday, and was refusing to comply with police commands but eventually surrendered. Bell is facing assault and other related charges. 

*The Wayne County Superintendent’s daughter is facing charges after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested 24-year-old Courtney Williams Shaver. The now former Wayne County High School science teacher was arrested Friday for allegedy having sex with a 17-year-old male student. Shaver was taken into custody at her home without incident and booked into the Wayne County jail.
