*Tuesday was a special day in the history of Lake Lanier. It was on May 7, 1954, that the bill calling for the creation of Lake Lanier was introduced in Congress by then-9th District Congressman Phil Landrum. The development was noted in a front-page article in the Atlanta Constitution but was only a dozen lines long and was placed “below the fold.”
