Source of E. Hall oil slick remains a mystery

The source of an oil slick that hampered traffic on Old Cornelia Highway near East Hall High School a couple of days this week remained a mystery Saturday afternoon.

“On Wednesday evening, a passing vehicle spilled oil on the roadway,” a spokeswoman for Hall County government said. “The spill was reported to the Sheriff’s Office and cleaned up by Road Maintenance.”

But she added “Additional cleanup efforts were needed the following day to remove remaining residue, which was also completed by Road Maintenance. At this time, there is no information on who was responsible for the spill.”

The sheriff’s office issued two traffic alerts over two days because the road was temporarily closed for clean-up, both of them in the overnight hours.
