*DragonCon is in Atlanta this weekend, but some fans are not happy. They booked at Stockbridge Suits nearly a year ago. But the hotel closed July 31 for renovations, and several tell ANF they got no advance warning. . These fans tell ANF-TV they got no advance warning. They wound up booking another hotel in the same area for an extra $650. No word on the refund situation.
*An Augusta woman is facing six child cruelty charges after deputies found her six children living in a home filled with trash, decaying food, and maggots. Richmond County sheriff’s deputies discovered the conditions while assisting with an eviction and said the children ranged from five-months to 14-years-old. Authorities reported insects throughout the home, human waste in a toilet, and pathways blocked by debris. The Division of Family and Children Services responded to the scene, and deputies arrested 33-year-old Tisheika Washington. Records showed at least four child welfare complaints involving the family since February.
*Big changes are coming to Gas South Arena in Gwinnett County. A groundbreaking ceremony held last week marking the official beginning of renovations expected to total $175-million over the next two-years.
*The FAA has okayed a $100 million grant to the Atlanta airport for runway, taxiway and terminal reconstruction and runway safety area improvements. It is one of 191 grants to airports in 36 states and two territories through the federal govenment’s Airport Infrastructure Grants program.
