A single-engine airplane bound for Atlanta was diverted to Habersham
County Airport Thursday night after experiencing an in-flight emergency.
Habersham County emergency personnel were dispatched to the airport just
before 9:00 after officials were notified of the situation.
Habersham County Emergency Services Battalion Chief Dwight McNally
said the pilot declared the emergency because of smoke in the cockpit.
“Fortunately, the gentlemen in the plane were able to land safely,” McNally
said. “The plane was not on fire and they just had a minor mechanical
issue.”
The plane landed and taxied onto the ramp just off the taxiway.
Operations at the airport were not impacted by the incident.
