Several serious injuries in weekend crash

Several people, including a juvenile, who were in a pickup that was struck by a dump truck at a Lumpkin County intersection Saturday morning suffered serious injuries in the crash as did the dump truck driver. The state patrol said early today it happened at the Georgia 60/Pony Lake Road intersection.

“The investigation showed that a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado was turning right from Pony Lake Road onto South Chestatee Street,” state patrol spokeswoman Crystal Zion said. “A 2026 Peterbilt dump truck was traveling north on South Chestatee Street. The front of the dump truck struck the driver’s side of the Silverado. After impact, the Silverado traveled onto the south shoulder of SR 60 striking an embankment then overturned onto its passenger side. The Peterbilt dump truck continued into a ditch where it came to rest.”

A juvenile in the Silverado was taken to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta by LifeFlight; all other occupants of the Silverado and dump truck were taken to a local hospital. “All occupants of the Silverado are believed to have serious injuries,” Cpt. Zion said.
