Serious injury in 985 wreck; 2 injuries in Cleveland Hwy. crash

“On Monday, April 8, 2024, at 1:00 pm, Troopers responded to I-985 north in the area of the Plainview Road Overpass.

Upon arrival and investigation, it was determined a Ford Transit van was traveling north on I-985 in the left-hand lane.  The driver, Jose Carrillo Hernandez, 18, of Snellville, failed to maintain his lane of travel and entered the grass median.  The Transit struck a guardrail face with its driver’s side and then began to overturn.

While overturning, the passenger, Victor Servin, 18, of Winder was totally thrown from the vehicle and landed in the right-hand lane of I-985 NB.  After overturning several times, the van came to an uncontrolled rest across both travel lanes of I-985 NB, facing east.

Both Carrillo Hernanzez and Servin were transported from the scene.  Carillo Hernandez had visible injures while Servin was seriously injured.

Charges are pending, as the investigation continues.

The interstate was completely shut down due to the investigation for 25 minutes before a portion of the roadway was opened.  The entire roadway was reopened at 2:30 pm.
