One person was “severely injured” in a multi-vehicle crash on I-985 near Flowery Branch.
GEORGIA STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:
“On January 27, at approximately 1:05 p.m., Post 6 Troopers arrived at the scene of a three-vehicle crash occurring along I-985 SB, near Mile Marker 8, in Hall County.
The investigation revealed a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Mr. Adrien Edoo (36, Cleveland, TN), became disabled in the grassy center median, positioned perpendicular to the roadway, causing traffic to slow. A 2011 Hyundai Tucson driven by Mr. Rene Garcia Cardona (19, Lawrenceville) was traveling south in the left lane then entered the center median due to traffic slowing for the Cavalier. The Tuscon struck the cable barrier posts while rotating. The Tucson continued to rotate and struck the passenger side of the Cavalier with its front.
Mr. Edoo was severely injured and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Mr. Garcia Cardona sustained minor injuries and was not transported for medical treatment.
This crash also involved a 2015 Infinity Q50 driven by Mr. Stephen Stonecipher (58, Alpharetta). The Infinity sustained minor damage and the driver was not injured.
The crash and resulting on-scene crash investigation caused I-985 SB to be closed for an extended period. All lanes of I-985 were re-opened for traffic at 3:37 p.m.”
