School tax hike under consideration

The Hall County Board of Education announced Wednesday its intention to increase property taxes for 2026 by 6.95 percent over the rollback millage rate.

The rollback rate for 2026 was calculated at 14.484 mills. The board is considering a rate of 15.490 mills, which represents an increase of 1.006 mills over the rollback rate and a 0.5 mill increase over the current rate of 14.990 mills.

Officials said whether an individual property’s taxes rise or fall depends on reassessment values determined by the county board of tax assessors. Georgia law requires reassessment when property sales indicate changes in fair market value.

Because the tentative budget reflects a millage rate higher than the rollback rate, state law requires three public hearings before the board can finalize the budget and set the rate. Hearings are scheduled for Aug. 10 at 6:00 and Aug. 24 at 11:30 and 6:00 at the Hall County Board of Education Central Office on Green Street.

Additional details about the proposed budget and millage rate are available on the Hall County School District website at Budget – Hall County Schools.
