As 97.5 Glory FM reported earlier this week, the Hall County Board of Education (HCBOE) plans to join other local governing bodies here and around the state in opting out of HB 581, that new tax reform measure approved by Georgia voters in November. Now, Schools Supt. Will Schofield is explaining the “why” of the board’s plans.
School system spokesman Stan Lewis emailed this statement from Schofield Friday morning:
“As approved by Hall County voters during the General Election, the Hall County School District
has elected to opt out of House Bill 581 and will continue to follow its local 3% property tax
assessment cap…Opting out of this exemption will allow our district to maintain the most streamlined process and focus on the intent of the assessment cap legislation, rather than managing two separate homestead exemptions for each qualifying parcel.”
