The Gainesville Hall County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 41 has established scholarships in honor of two deceased prominent law enforcement leaders for use in easing the financial burden of higher education by offering scholarships to officers and their children.
“As we enter the new year, we are excited to announce the awarding of three scholarships
through the Cops & Kids Go to College Program,” says an FOP press release.
The inaugural Frank Hooper Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to Addyson McCoy,
daughter of Gainesville Police Investigator Keith McCoy and Keri McCoy. Addyson is a freshman
at the University of Georgia, where she is pursuing a degree in public relations with a
specialization in sports media. Hooper was a longtime Gainesville police officer who served several years as chief of the department.
The inaugural Harry Chapman Memorial Scholarship recipient is Lt. John Dawson, who currently
serves with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. Lt. Dawson is pursuing his Master’s Degree in Social
Work at Liberty University. Chapman was another longtime Gainesville police officer.
The Presidential Scholarship has been awarded to Noelle Jackson, daughter of Hall County
Deputy Nicholas Jackson and Heather Jackson. Noelle is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
at Lee University.
Each scholarship recipient has received $1,000 to be used for educational expenses.
These scholarships are available to members of the Gainesville Hall County Fraternal Order of Police
and the immediate family of all law enforcement officers who serve Hall County.
