S. Hall man sent to prison for 30 years for attack on 15-year-old

A 22-year-old Flowery Branch man was sentenced recently to 30 years in prison by a Gwinnett County judge after pleading guilty to attacking a teenage girl, including stabbing her more than 80 times.

Zachary Iona pleaded guilty to charges of rape, aggravated assault, and use of weapon during a violent crime.

WSB reports Iona stabbed the 15-year-old victim and 86 times before she was able to call for help.

The teen survived the attack but has had several surgeries and has undergone physical therapy to allow her to walk again.

The two met two years ago on Snapchat.

That prompted Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Gatson to warn young people to be cautious on social media especially about agreeing to meet someone you don’t know.
