S. Hall man jailed following incident that began at the jail

An Oakwood man was arrested Monday in connection with an incident that occurred this past Thursday night that began at the Hall County Jail on Barber Road.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“Just before 10:00… a Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy was leaving the (controlled entry way) area of the Hall County Jail after he had dropped off an inmate.

As he was exiting the restricted area, he observed a vehicle approaching the gate and flashed his lights at the car to alert the driver to turn around. The driver, later identified as Tiquan Lamar Faniel, 40, abruptly turned and drove up Barber Road toward Calvary Church Road, driving on both sides of the roadway and traveling at speeds in excess of 20 mph over the posted speed limit.

At the intersection of Calvary Church Road, Faniel sped through a stop sign, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a large county government sign. Faniel exited his vehicle and ran from the deputy. A K9 team was called to track Faniel, but the track was unsuccessful because of heavy rain in the area.

The deputy was able to obtain suspect information, including an address, through vehicle registration. HCSO Warrant Service Unit deputies arrested Faniel at his home.

Faniel faces the following charges, all misdemeanor offenses:

·         Reckless driving

·         Fleeing or attempting to elude

·         Driving too fast for conditions

·         Failure to maintain lane

·         Stop/yield sign violation

·         Duty to stop at accident (hit and run)

·         Obstruction of an officer/resisting arrest

·         Driving while license suspended

·         Open container violation

·         DUI/alcohol-less safe

At last check, Faniel remained in the Hall County Jail on a bond of $22,620.”
