Robbery suspect now facing 160+ child porn charges

A suspect arrested in January for the armed robbery of a Gainesville convenience store now
faces dozens of charges involving the possession of pornographic images of children.

The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) arrested Abraham Makaya-Bazaba, 18, of
Gainesville, on charges of felony armed robbery, aggravated assault and theft by taking
following the hold-up of Browns Bridge Market on Jan. 13. During the course of their
investigation, GPD officers discovered sexually explicit photos of children on the suspect’s
cell phone.

Because the suspect lives in Hall County, the phone was turned over to Hall County Sheriff’s
Office (HCSO) investigators for further processing. The HCSO investigation found 164
images of child sex abuse material (CSAM) on the phone. The children in the photos were
estimated to range in age from infant to 14-years-old.

As a result, Makaya-Bazaba was charged with 164 felony counts of sexual exploitation of children.

He remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond.
