A 23-year-old man has been jailed in Cumming following an attemped robbery and carjacking this morning.
“At approximately oppproximately 8:15, deputies with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from the Johns Creek Police Department, responded to the Valero gas station located at the intersection of McGinnis Ferry Road and Old Atlanta Road folliwing reporrts of an armed robbery,” said sheriff’s office spokeswoman Stacie Miller.
The investigation determined that the victim was standing at the gas pumps when the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Kahil Burgess, approached from behind and attempted to steal his car. “During the encounter, Burgess produced a firearm and fired at the victim. The victim was not struck or injured,” Miller said.
Following the attempted robbery, Burgess fled the scene, she added.
“During an immediate neighborhood canvass, deputies and detectives quickly gathered critical information that led them to Burgess’ location at a residence in the St. Marlo community, where he was taken into custody without incident.”
Burgess has been charged with armed fobbery, motor vehicle highjacking, and aggravated assault.
