A 53-year-old Gainesville man was jailed Tuesday night following a road rage incident in which shots were fired and verbal threats made toward the victim motorist, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“At approximately 9:50…(sheriff’s) deputies responded to a road rage incident on Interstate 985.
Deputies met with the victims and witnesses at White Sulphur and Beverly Roads.
According to the initial investigation, a man and woman were traveling north on Interstate 985 when an SUV driver tried to run them off the road several times between Exits 12 (Spout Springs Road) and 24 (Ga. 369/Jesse Jewell Parkway).
The victim driver heard a gunshot and then made a U-turn to head south on 985. The victim exited the interstate at Exit 24 and turned onto White Sulphur Road. The SUV followed, forcing the victim to stop. The SUV driver then got out of his vehicle, approached the victim’s car with a gun in his hand and said, “Do you want to die tonight.” The victims drove off and then pulled over at Beverly Road, where they discovered a bullet hole in the trunk of their car. No one suffered injuries.
Based on vehicle information, deputies located the suspect, Eugene Telfonzo Henfield, 53, and the SUV at his residence in the 3000 block of Valley View Court.
