Retired Gainesville banker, community leader dies

Rich White, a Gainesville resident who spent 30 years in the banking industry, including various leadership roles at First National Bank of Gainesville, now called Regions Bank, has died. He also was a former officer with United Community Bank.

White, who was 74, died Thursday. The cause of death has not been announced.

White was a graduate of Gainesville Junior College, now the University of North Georgia-Gainesville, and was a former chairman of the University of North Georgia-Gainesville Foundation and a past chairman of the Gainesville Junior College Foundation. He served on the university’s Consolidation Implementation Committee and on the committee that worked to merge UNG’s two foundations into one.

He also led a number of community organizations, including past chairman of the North Georgia Community Foundation, the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, and the Georgia Mountain Food Bank.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
