Resident trapped on 30-foot high porch as home burns

Habersham County first responders had to deal with a rescue and fight a huge residential fire at the same time early Sunday. They got the call about 4:45 to the 300 block of Skyview Circle.

HABERSHAM CO. NARRATIVE:

“The caller stated his house was on fire and that he was stuck on the porch and couldn’t get off due to it being a 30-foot drop…

While en route, mutual aid was requested from White County Fire Services due to the nature of the call and the limited access to water in that community.

…arriving units (found) a two-story residential structure that was roughly 75% engulfed in fire and advised they were going to be operating in rescue mode.

…at 5:05 a.m., the victim was removed from the porch from a ground ladder…was taken to the waiting med unit for evaluation and later refused any further care due to not being injured.

After victim removal, all units went to fire attack after the arrival of additional water and crews from mutual aid requests.

Crews remained on the scene until 10 a.m. assisting the state fire marshal with his investigation…”
