11:30 A.M. UPDATE:
Here’s a general timeline of how weather service expects the weather to evolve today over all of north and central Georgia. “Impacts will be felt first over western Georgia and spread east as the rain and embedded thunderstorms move across the state,” according to a late morning advisory. (See accompanying graphic for more details.)
EARLIER STORY. POSTED 5:30 A.M.: What remains of Tropical Storm Arthur will bring a risk for heavy rain to much of north Georgia today.
As a result, the weather service says several inches of rain are possible and could lead to flash flooding, especially in low-lying and poor drainage urban areas and “heavy rainfall and strong to severe thunderstorms are expected…especially late Thursday into Friday morning.”
Meanwhile, a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for several counties west of the Gainesville.
