Religious freedom bill working its way through state legislature

(GEORGIA NEWS NETWORK)

A controversial religious freedom bill is being considered in the state General Assembly.

SB36 will allow Georgians to exercise religious faith without state, federal, or local government intrusion. But some state representatives, like Esther Panitch of Sandy Springs, say the bill could be discriminatory if an antidiscrimination clause is not included.

But others, like Georgia Faith and Freedom Coalition Executive Director Mack Parnell tell Atlanta News First the bill is exactly what the state needs.

A similar bill was passed by the General Assembly in 2016 but was later vetoed by the-Gov. Nathan Deal. Gov. Kemp says he supports the bill as it is written right now.
