Racing on public streets: 2 arrested, 3rd gets away

Local authorities made two arrests in recent days for street racing, but a third suspect connected to one of the incidents got away.

In one of the cases, a Hall County sheriff’s deputy was conducting a business check on Athens Highway Tuesday night when he saw two vehicles racing on the roadway, traveling at an “estimated” 85 miles-an-hour.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRATIVE:

“…He was able to stop the vehicle being driven by Mr. (Brandon Kevin) Hernandez, 18, at the intersection of Athens Highway and Gillsville Highway. The other vehicle sped away down Gillsville Highway.

The deputy cited Mr. Hernandez for speeding and driving with a suspended license, both misdemeanor offenses. He was released from jail earlier this (Wednesday) morning.”

(EDITOR’S NOTE: Details were not immediately available on the second incident, but a Gainesville Police report says Douglas Alexander Villatoro, 19, was arrested Saturday and charged with Racing On Highway Or Streets. The arrest was made on Shallowford Road.)
