With its original goal of tackling facility upgrades and enhancing safety measures, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier decided to demolish its previous facility at Positive Place to construct a 25,000-square-foot facility, costing $8.5 million. And on March 13, a grand reopening will be held, replacing a 50-year-old structure.
“With more than 20,500 kids leaving school every day with no safe place to go in the Lanier area, it is our goal to serve more kids, more often, making a greater impact. To do that, we needed a new facility,” said Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier Chief Executive Officer Steve Mickens. “The modern, functional and an environmentally conscious facility will serve the needs of our community for years to come.”
With a growing teen participation, the building includes a dedicated space for middle school teens
(ages 11-13) in hopes of achieving higher high school graduation rates among this group. The new
facility will offer hands-on engaging educational opportunities that allow students of all ages to
explore a variety of career interests – and have fun in the process.
