On a warm Georgia afternoon Wednesday, members of the Community Engagement Division of the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) handed out popsicles to residents throughout the city.

“As temperatures climbed, the popsicles quickly became a popular item, proving that sometimes community engagement can be as simple as a smile, a conversation, and something cold to beat the heat,” a GPD posting reads. “Fortunately, no reports were filed for ‘brain freeze,’ although a few residents may have come dangerously close.”

The Community Engagement Division continues to look for meaningful ways to connect with residents, “demonstrating that positive policing can happen one popsicle at a time.”
