Police: No credence to TMU threat

Truett McConnell University (TMU) received an email Wednesday morning that made threats of violence on or about the campus.

It specifically mentioned an active shooter and the use of explosives, according to Cleveland Police Chief Jeff Shoemaker. And as it turned out, the same message was sent to over 100 other colleges and universities here and overseas.

In addition to Cleveland Police, TMU Security, the GBI, Georgia Homeland Security, the Cleveland Fire Department, and the White County Fire Department, emergency management, and EMS all responded.

An Internet search shows schools in Ohio and Texas were among those that were targeted. And the same thing happened Feb. 23 involving other colleges and universities. One police official termed in a form of “swatting,” which has plagued some politicians of late.
