Police beat: Cell tower theft & $7K+ fraud & $500+ shoplifting

*The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is investigating the theft of cable from a cell tower site. A deputy responded to a cell tower site on Hog Mountain Road Wednesday to investigate a theft complaint. A service technician with T-Mobile had received a notification on Sept. 9 indicating a vehicle had entered the cell tower area. There was no sign of forced entry; however, a panel box at the site was damaged and some cable had been cut and removed. The sheriff’s office had no other details including the amount of the loss. *Gainesville Police received a report recently of a $7,500 loss by a local used car lot. A police spokesman said the case involves two “bad” checks that were given as down payment on a vehicle.

*A 30-year-old man, William Caleb Simmons, is charged with Theft by Taking/Shoplifting Over $500. “Simmons was arrested after a warrant was taken for his arrest,” Gainesville Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook said. “He is alleged to have stolen a mower from Lowe’s.” The exact value of the mower was not disclosed.
