Plans for multi-million-dollar Forsyth Co. entertainment-sports complex moving along

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will be presented with an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) later this month between the County and Krause Sports and Entertainment, the developer for The Gathering at South Forsyth. That’s the proposed $2 billion-plus entertainment hub and arena that some hope will become home to a National Hockey League (NHL) team.

FORSYTH CO. NEWS RELEASE:

“If authorized by the board during the meeting, the MOU will represent a binding agreement between the County and the development group, allowing the developer to proceed with the next steps of the project.

“The approval of the MOU would be another tremendous step in the right direction toward bringing a world-class sports and entertainment hub to Forsyth County that could have a deep economic impact on our community,” said Forsyth County Manager David McKee. “Details are still being defined as discussions continue with the development team, but we feel that we are close to having an updated draft MOU to present to the board that will look slightly different than what was in the Agreement in Principal presented and approved earlier this year.”

“Ultimately, we are excited to reach another milestone in the proposed Gathering at South Forsyth development and are optimistic on bringing the hub to Forsyth County.”

The meeting, which will include a public hearing, is scheduled to be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, in the Forsyth County Administration Building (110 E. Main St., Suite 220) and will be streamed online at forsythco.com.

“The proposed site for the development is an incredibly valuable, vacant, shovel-ready and easily accessible piece of property that is ripe for such a large development in one of the nation’s fastest growing and most economically viable communities,” said District 5 Commissioner Laura Semanson. “This development provides an opportunity to elevate our local economy and also position Forsyth County as a prime destination for sports and entertainment enthusiasts and businesses looking to locate in the region.”

The development group and Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce will also host public engagement opportunities through a series of town halls in March where representatives from Krause Sports and Entertainment, the chamber and the County will present information and answer questions.”
