(SRN NEWS/AP) – The Cyclospora outbreak linked to recalled iceberg lettuce imported from Mexico has spread to Georgia, Tennessee and Texas.
The CDC confirms that and notes that there have now been more than 11,000 cases reported nationwide in 20 states which has led to nearly 500 hospitalizations and two deaths.
The heat-loving parasite infects the bowels and spreads through feces. The illness, called cyclosporiasis, is less common than foodborne illnesses caused by other germs, including salmonella and E. coli. Many cyclospora cases are never linked to a specific food or other source.
