*Overcrowding forces a middle Georgia jail to consider expanding. Monroe County Sheriff’s Lt. Thomas Hoskins tells 41-NBC the jail is built for 175 inmates but now they house 190 on a regular basis. Officials say the expansion project is still in the initial stages but hope to move forward on jail expansion in the next year or two.
*Stockbridge Mayor Jayden Williams is under investigation for possible misuse of city money. City Council members voted Friday to restrict Williams’ powers while that investigation underway. He is now banned from non-public areas to city building, including his office, and has been ordered to return city credit cards, fuel cards and any city property he may have.
*State Rep. Trey Kelley must face a lawsuit alleging he tried to help coverup a fatal hit-and-run involving a bicyclist in Cedartown. That’s according to a ruling from the Georgia Court of Appeals which says a Polk County judge improperly dismissed claims against Kelley, a Cedartown Republican.
*A now-former Bartow County sheriff’s deputy is accused of beating a foster child placed in his care. State agents arrested 31-year-old Andrew Sean Williams, following a probe by the GBI. Law enforcement first found the child walking down a street. According to a sheriff’s incident report, the victim ran away after being whipped with a belt at least 20 times. Williams bonded out of jail in under 30 minutes, and the remaining foster children have been removed from the home.
