*Senator Jon Ossoff has a clear vision for the next few years. The Georgia Democrat recently told WSB-TV that he is not interested in running for president in 2028, despite being frequently mentioned on potential candidate lists. He stresses his commitment to serving the state of Georgia. Right now, he’s in a re-election battle against Republican Congressman Mike Collins.
*A former East Point policeman, convicted of several felony charges, including aggravated sexual battery and child molestation of a 15-year-old girl, is sentenced to life plus 20 years. Prosecutors argued that eight years ago Richard Gooddine detained the young girl over a curfew violation, then assaulted her, and dropped her off at her mother’s house. Prosecutors also said the mother took her daughter to the hospital to have a rape kit performed and that Gooddine showed up in uniform to intimidate the girl. According to a family attorney, hospital staff had to escort Gooddine from the property. Gooddine’s defense attorneys had hoped to get him 25 years.
*Some residents around Columbus are busy cleaning up debris that fell during severe storms last weekend. The Department of Public Works has decided to suspend debris fees through October 12 while recovery efforts are underway. The emergency management director in Columbus told WRBL that around 80 trees fell during the storm.
