‘Opt out’ list keeps growing

Add the Oakwood City Council to the list of local governing bodies that have opted out of or are considering opting out of that new state tax reform bill.

The city council has scheduled a special meeting for 6:00 Tuesday at city hall at which a public hearing on the question will be held.

Already the Hall County School Board is holding hearings on it and the county commission has some planned. The Gainesville Mayor and City Council have already voted to opt out as has the Gainesville School Board.

Other local governments and school boards in the immediate area and around the state have done so or are considering it.

All of this has some state lawmakers talking about amending the legislation to require participation.
