One dead in White Co. house fire

One person was killed in a house fire in White County Saturday. It happened about 6:00 p.m. in the area of Tom Bell Road and McGee Drive.

White County Fire Services, supported through automatic aid by Cleveland Fire Department and Helen Fire Department, responded to the scene along with the White County Sheriff’s Office. Initial reports indicated the possibility of an individual trapped in the house.

First units on the scene found a modular home fully involved with flames. Firefighters remained at the house throughout the evening to extinguish hot spots and prevent reignition.

Mutual aid from Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute (LACI) provided additional manpower to assist with firefighting operations. White County Emergency Management’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) deployed its Rehabilitation Unit to support firefighters in recovery during and after the fire. Additionally, UAS1 (drone) was dispatched to provide aerial overwatch.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the state fire marshal’s office.
