10:30 A.M. WEDNESDAY UPDATE:
The name of the man found dead Monday at the Jameson Inn in Oakwood is Javier Weary. Lt. Stewart Webb of the Oakwood Police Department said Wednesday morning he was 31 years old. However, he said there was no other information to release at this time.
1:15 P.M. TUESDAY UPDATE:
Oakwood Police say the death investigation they are conducting began Monday when the staff at the Jameson Motel called them to report that the man occupying one of their rooms had failed to check out.
Officers responded around noon and the motel manager told them he discovered the man unresponsive in his room, according to Det. Lt. Stewart Webb. Hall County Fire Rescue personnel confirmed the man was deceased.
Investigators from the Oakwood Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and crime scene unit processed the room for evidence. Lt. Webb said there were no immediate signs of foul play. The county coroner’s office recovered the body for autopsy and toxicology testing to determine the cause of death.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
“With any unexplained or suspicious death, we investigate it at the same level that we would a homicide until we are able to eliminate that as a possibility,” Lt. Webb said.
EARLIER STORY. POSTED 8:45 A.M. TUESDAY:
Oakwood Police are investigating a possible homicide after a body was found Monday at the Jameson Inn.
“We responded to a death scene at the hotel and are still investigating it as a potential homicide since it was an unattended death and we still have a number of unanswered questions,” Chief Tim Hatch said this morning.
Social media posts Monday and this morning described “lots” of police activity around the motel and crime scene tape. The motel is located just off Mundy Mill Road across from one of the entrances to the University of North Georgia Oakwood campus.
This is a developing story which will be updated when more information becomes available.
