GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Roswell that left an Oakwood man in critical condition. The state agency identified him Monday as Martin Candelas Ponce, 34.
The GBI said earlier the preliminary information indicates on March 23, at about 1:15 a.m., the Roswell 911 Center received several calls from staff and patrons at Mazzy’s Sports Bar & Grill on Alpharetta Highway about an unruly patron armed with a gun.
Officers arrived at the business and encountered a man, later identified as Ponce, armed with a handgun sitting at the bar. Officers gave the man verbal commands to drop the weapon. The man raised the weapon, and an officer shot the man.
Officers rendered aid to the man until he was taken to a local hospital for treatment where he is listed in critical condition.
