NWS: Another couple of days of rain, then windy & colder

We may get a break in the rainy weather for several hours today but don’t put the umbrellas away just yet.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is sticking by its forecast that we’ll have some rain today with showers intensifying tonight and tomorrow. Heaviest of the rain today, meanwhile, is likely to hold off until the afternoon.

But Saturday will bring with it “more widespread rain and storms with a risk of isolated severe weather that bring gusty winds,” forecasters say. “(The) main concern will continue to be heavy rain (and the) Flood Watch remains in effect.”

Nearly three inches of rain has been recorded at the Gainesville airport since this round of showers began but some unofficial readings in the county show amounts totaling 3.5 inches or more. An additional one to two inches can be expected through Saturday night before showers end and windy and cooler weather moves into north Georgia.
