An elderly Cornelia woman was the victim of a home invasion in Habersham County about 8:00 Thursday morning, according to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.
The woman told authorities she thought a family member had entered her house, but upon calling out to the person a second time realized it was a man who had forced entry into the house on East Walnut Street. But that he ran from the house when she yelled at him to get out.
Sheriff’s deputies responded, noting damage to the home where forced entry had occurred around the back door.
Cornelia police officers assisted with matching a camera image of the man who ran from the home to a neighbor’s video of the man running down East Walnut Street, only two minutes before a pickup was seen traveling on the road.
Deputies located the truck at a nearby residence and obtained permission from the homeowner to search that home. Joshua Adam Doster, 49, whose address is listed as Lawrenceville, was found hiding behind clothes in a closet. Doster initially refused to place his hands behind his back when officers tried to handcuff him, resulting in an obstruction charge.
Additionally, he is charged with burglary and criminal trespass in connection with the forced entry of the original home.
