*Athens Police have determined there is “no evidence” that a UGA student was raped in downtown Athens last week. However, two men are facing charges related to the incident. Classic City News says they face charges of financial transaction card theft, financial transaction card fraud, and identity fraud. The student reported waking up on cardboard boxes with a homeless man masturbating behind her after a night of drinking at a bar near City Hall.
*The Cyclospora outbreak linked to recalled iceberg lettuce imported from Mexico has spread to Georgia, with over 11,000 cases reported across 20 states. The outbreak, caused by the Cyclospora parasite, has led to nearly 500 hospitalizations and two deaths. WSBTV reports Symptoms can take up to two weeks to appear.
*A man who opened fire inside the Decatur Library earlier this year will not be prosecuted. A judge ruled this week that Medicus Brown acted in self-defense when he shot and wounded a man in early February. Brown was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault. Three witnesses reportedly testified that Brown was caught in a chokehold by the man before the shooting.
*Another Georgia police officer is off the force for allegedly misusing the license plate reader system. The GBI arrested Michael Canty this week after a review of his usage of the Covington Police Department’s Flock system. He’s also been fired from his job.
