NHMS student attends STEM academy; Suit against GCSS, others settled out of court; Tuesday is 1st day of school

*Mason Blalock, a student at North Hall Middle School, was selected to participate in the Appalachian STEM Academy this summer, a residential, hands-on STEM program hosted by Oak Ridge Associated Universities in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. *97.5 Glory FM has confirmed that the family of a Gainesville High School baseball player who was fatally injured in an on-field accident three years ago has reached an out-of-court settlement of their suit against the city school system and others. Jeremy Medina died several weeks after he was struck in the head by a bat during a practice session.

*Students in the Gainesville City School System’s (GCSS) nine schools return to the classroom Tuesday for the first day of the new school year. The system is expecting a first-day enrollment of about 8,200, the same as last year.
