Growing up, Julia Mattingly, MD, shared a close bond with her oldest sister who has Down syndrome, autism and is non-verbal. That connection helped her realize her knack for being in tune with the needs of those around her, eventually leading her to pursue a career in medicine. Now, Dr. Mattingly is joining Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Dahlonega as a primary care physician.
“The connection I have with my sister taught me how to truly listen to people,” Dr. Mattingly said. “And that’s something I carry with me in every patient visit. I want to take the time to hear my patients’ concerns and do everything I can to help them.”
She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and went on to earn her medical degree from Mercer University. She then completed her family medicine residency at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Hospital, where she earned the Resident of the Year Award.
Although Dr. Mattingly was born in Massachusetts and grew up in Connecticut, her family moved to Suwanee, Georgia, when she was 12, and she’s called Georgia home ever since.
