New Buford School Supt.; New hire at local Y; Contract OK’d for Dawson Co. bridge project

*Dr. Amy Chafin is the sole finalist for Buford School Superintendent and will assume the post once the vote of the school board is finalized in a couple of weeks. Dr. Chafin now serves as the school system’s Deputy Superintendent. She will succeed Melanie Reed who recently announced plans to retire at the end of the current school year.

*The Gainesville-based Georgia Mountains YMCA Monday announced the appointment of its first-ever Executive Director of Mission Advancement. Greg Gober will play a pivotal role in advancing the YMCA’s mission and fostering meaningful connections in Hall County and the surrounding areas, according to a news release. Gober is a longtime member of the Y and brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as a Market Trainer for the McDonald’s Corporation, holding a Master’s Degree in Education, and dedicating over 30 years to Pastoral Ministry.

*A three-million-dollar contract has been okayed by the Georgia Department of Transportation Board of Directors for the construction of a new bridge on Shoal Creek Road at Shoal Creek in Dawson County. The work has an expected completion date of November 30.
