NE Ga. state House districts unaffected by reapportionment plans

State Representative Rob Leverett (R-Elberton), chairman of the House Committee on Reapportionment and Redistricting, Tuesday announced the release of the newly proposed remedial House district map, which will be eligible for consideration during the special legislative session beginning today.

Northeast Georgia districts are not impacted by the proposed changes which have been developed in order to comply with a federal court ruling handed down this fall. However, a number of districts are. All but one are currently held by Democrats.

That means if the map gains final approval by the Republican-controlled legislature several incumbent legislators will find themselves in the same districts setting up potential elections in which they will be pitted against each other.
