(SRN NEWS/AP/97.5 GLORY FM) – When the request for assistance came, four members of the Maysville Area Volunteer Fire Department grabbed their brush truck and headed south to help battle the Brantley County fire in south Georgia.
“A crew of 4 headed out early this morning and have been assisting in the response throughout the day,” a late Saturday Facebook posting by the department said. “Please keep these men and those they are working alongside in your prayers as they help our friends and neighbors down south.”
Meanwhile, the two largest of the fires continued to threaten homes and lives on Saturday as officials warned that strong winds could spread the flames.
Brantley County Manager Joey Cason called it a “dynamic situation” in a video posted to social media and begged residents to “please evacuate” if ordered to do so.
