NE Ga. animal shelter goes up in flames

(GA. NEWS NETWORK) – Southern Journey Animal Rescue and Transport, an animal sanctuary in Blairsville, is seeking community assistance after two buildings caught fire, resulting in the loss of all supplies for the animals.

A social media post from the organization says that despite the devastation, all of the animals were safely rescued. The post says the property owners had homeowner’s insurance but not a business policy which means nothing associated with the shetler is covered. The group’s new van was also destroyed in the fire, hindering their ability to transport animals.

A fundraiser has been started to help rebuild the sanctuary, which has saved over 10,000 animals.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
