Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield (pictured) will recommend to the Board of
Education a name for the district’s newest elementary school.
Everwood Elementary, which upon completion next summer, will be located at 5240 McEver Road. The new school will serve as a merger of Oakwood Elementary and McEver Arts Academy, both of which are set to close at the end of the current school year.
The selection of the name, Everwood, was the result of a collaborative effort by a planning
committee that began meeting in February 2024. The committee, led by Matt Alexander,
Director of Literacy and Numeracy, was composed of parents, staff, and community members.
The name “Everwood” reflects a combination of Oakwood and McEver, resonating strongly
with the committee’s vision.
In addition to the new name, the school colors of red and blue were selected. These colors
honor the primary colors of the merging schools. The committee also visited Sandra Dunagan
Deal Elementary before it officially opened, to gather ideas on color schemes and view samples.
The mascot for the school, which will open next fall, is yet to be determined.
Schofield (pictured) is expected to make his recommendation at a board meeting Monday.
