Month-long domestic incident investigation ends in arrest

A Flowery Branch man faces charges following a domestic incident last month involving a woman and two juveniles during which he allegedly grabbed two of them by the throat.

The adult victim of the crime first reported the incident by phone on Dec. 21 as she was leaving the state to get away from the suspect, identified as Kyle C. Wettlaufer, 28.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy who took the report learned that the victim and Wettlaufer had a verbal argument that same day at his camper on Old Federal Road. When the victim’s juvenile son attempted to defend his mother, Wettlaufer grabbed the child by the throat, according to the incident report, and, then grabbed the woman by the throat when she tried to free her son. Woman’s juvenile daughter was present at the time of the physical altercation.

She was eventually able to leave the premises with her two children and drive to the home of a family member in South Carolina.

Following in-person interviews with the three victims this week, a sheriff’s office investigator charged Wettlaufer with two counts of felony aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act (FVA) and two counts of child cruelty in the third degree.

He remained in the Hall County Jail Thursday afternoon with no bond.
