*A measles case is present in metro Atlanta. The Georgia Department of Public Health revealed Tuesday that a patient infectious between Jan. 19-24 tested positive. It was reportedly picked up while traveling in the U.S. Health officials are once again encouraging families to take children for vaccinations.
*Approximately 200 soldiers from Fort Stewart have been deployed to the southern border to support border operations directed by President Trump.
*Georgia’s longest-serving lawmaker was honored with a portrait at the state capitol Tuesday. Retired State Rep. Calvin Smyre is the first from Columbus to be honored with a portrait after he served 50 years.
*Georgia’s Supreme Court Justice is calling for an end to the state’s partisan elections for judges. Justice Michael Boggs told state lawmakers Tuesday that politicization of courts halts public trust and confidence in the court system. He cited increasing attacks and threats of physical violence for politicizing the races. Boggs is also looking to receive back pay raises for judges in the state and superior courts.
*A state Senator is gaining support from the Republican Party in Georgia. Colton Moore was first allowed to enter the House chamber at the state Capitol last week, after he was initially arrested this month. The House Speaker had initially banned Moore from proceedings after he harshly criticized former Speaker David Ralston. Moore entered the House on Tuesday with no problem.
