Manhunt ends unsuccessfully, but wanted man now in custody

Gainesville Police searched in vain in the downtown area Monday night for a man wanted by Hall County authorities. But before daybreak he was in custody.

“Gainesville Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle at approximately 6:20 p.m., in order to serve arrest warrants on the driver, Antonio DeNova,” Gainesville Police spokesman Justin Martin said. “DeNova fled the traffic stop on foot (prompting a search of downtown for him)…the Hall County Sheriff’s Office eventually apprehended DeNova last night.”

Late Tuesday morning, DeNova was still in the Hall County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $21,750. He’s charged with Theft By Taking/Motor Vehicle, Loitering or Prowling, Probation Violation, and five counts of Obstruction-Resisting an Officer/Arrest.

Circumstances surrounding the original charges were not immediately available from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
