Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies arrested a man, wanted in Florida for attempted second-degree murder with a firearm following a brief pursuit and manhunt around Athens Street late Wednesday morning.
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“Wesley Ramone Knight, 46, who listed a Gainesville, Ga., home address in booking paperwork, is being held in the Hall County Jail on several local traffic offenses in addition to a hold by authorities in Florida.
At approximately 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, deputies on routine patrol spotted Knight’s vehicle, but lost sight of it. Shortly after, another deputy observed the northbound car, a 2007 Audi A4 2.0T, on U.S. 129/Athens Highway. Deputies, with blue lights and sirens on, followed Knight to Monroe Drive.
Next, Knight turned right on Monroe Drive heading toward Athens Street and passed a vehicle over a double-yellow line. He turned left on Athens Street, running the stop sign. Because of light traffic and the severity of the Florida warrant, a HCSO Traffic Unit deputy then pursued the suspect.
Knight cut through a parking lot in the 1400 block of Athens Street, and the traffic deputy saw him get out of his car and run at Harrison Square Apartments. Moments later, other deputies and Gainesville Police Department officers apprehended the suspect without further incident.
Deputies charged Knight with reckless conduct, fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, failure to
stop at a stop sign and passing in a no passing zone.
Knight’s Florida warrant, which also includes a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm, was obtained by the Leesburg Police Department (LPD) in Lake County.”
