Man shot by Commerce police dies

Levi Long, the man who was shot and wounded by Commerce Police almost two weeks ago, has died.

The GBI, which investigated the shooting as a matter of routine, said Tuesday that he died Sunday. Long had been hospitalized in Gainesville in critical condition since the July 16 incident.

He was shot, the state agency reported, several times by two officers when he charged at them with a screwdriver pointed at them.

The officers had responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a house on Orchard Drive.
